Pentru a umple un intreg sezon cu ceva atat de banal si de obicei de viata scurta, creatorii au amestecat stilul cu un pic de supranatural, twist-uri, si 3 criminali in serie diferiti, fiecare cu propriul sistem de credinte. Mai interesant decat asteptat dar nu de ajuns pentru a face sezonul sa merite.

'Fall' e un film thriller/horror dramatic. Inegal in totalitate, dara lipsit de monotonie, filmul mentine adrenalina privitorului la nivel (prea) inalt in prima jumatate iar in a doua ii provoaca un atac de cord. Cu o idee centrala ce pare lipsita de straturi si adancime, filmul ofera destule.

Two adventurous best friends climb a 2,000-foot radio tower.

'Fall' is a dramatic thriller/horror film. Uneven in its execution, but without any monotony, the film keeps the viewer's adrenaline at a (too) high level in the first half and then goes on to cause a heart attack in the second. With a central idea that seems lacking in layers and depth, the film offers plenty of it.

Misterul de elucidat ramane misterios si mentine privitorul curios pentru o buna bucata de film, dar interactiunea interesanta a personajelor si jocul de prima mana distrag de la imperfectiunile ce apar in ultima treime din film.

'The Pale Blue Eye' is a period thriller that borrows its style from Poe's writings. The mystery to be solved remains mysterious and keeps the viewer curious for a good part of the film, but the interesting interaction of the characters and the first-hand performances distract from the imperfections that appear in the last third of the film.

Un cuplu ce trece prin anxietate si fobii intr-un climat politic nesigur se trezeste in mijlocul unor evenimente cauzate de un cult.

'Cult ' este al saptelea sezon al American Horror Story. Urmeaza reteta deja bine cunoscuta in care o poveste singulara ocupa intregimea sezonului, cu tema aleasa apartinand unui subgen horror. Cazul de fata este de tip slasher cu influente istorice reale bine stabilite. Ca de obicei, echipa e condusa de foarte talentatii Sarah Paulson si Evan Peters, cu o poveste ce dureaza putin pana sa isi gaseasca vocea, dar inspre final captiveaza de ajuns. Finalul este asa si asa, dar eliberator.

A couple going through turmoil due to anxiety and phobias during an uncertain political climate finds themselves in the middle of events caused by a cult.

'Cult' is the seventh season of American Horror Story. It follows the already well-known recipe in which a single story occupies the entire season, with the chosen theme belonging to a horror subgenre. The present case is a slasher type one with well-established real historical cult influences. As usual, the team is led by the very talented Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, with a story that takes a while to find its voice, but towards the end it captivates enough. The ending is so and so, but liberating.

Ideea nu pare noua, dar e modernizata, personajele fac alegeri indoielnice si adesea sunt victime ale aerelor isterice sensibile care se poarta in timpul curent, dar curiozitatea e mentinuta eficient, intrebarile si teoriile apar cum trebuie, iar finalul este fresh.

A hurricane party held by a group of (rich) friends takes deadly unexpected turns during a game.

'Bodies Bodies Bodies' is a horror, the slasher kind, something like a Scream for the new generation. The idea does not seem new, but it is modernized, the characters make questionable choices and are often victims of the sensitive hysterical airs that are so in fashion in current times, but the curiosity is effectively maintained, the questions and theories appear as they should, and the ending is refreshing.

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)

Two lifelong friends go through a problematic episode when one of them decides that he no longer wants to be friends with the other.

'The Banshees of Inisherin' is a tragic-comedy film by Martin McDonagh. The elements of comedy are present to a good extent, based on simple dialogue, and the expressivity and Irish-ness of the actors, but the drama gradually increases, taking on considerable dimensions towards the end. The film touches on many themes, but loneliness and human selfishness (intentional or incidental) are primary, showing the consequences of isolation and lack of social options. The film starts with seemingly superficial intentions, but the foreshadowing is obvious from the beginning (the policeman's news, the old woman with banshee traits) as a warning.

Doi prieteni de o viata trec printr-un episod problematic cand unul din ei decide ca nu mai vrea sa fie prieten cu celalalt.

'The Banshees of Inisherin' e un film tragi-comedie, marca Martin McDonagh. Elementele de comedie sunt prezente intr-o masura buna, bazate pe un dialog simplu, si expresivitatea si specificul irlandez al actorilor, dar dramatismul creste gradual, luand marimi considerabile catre final. Filmul atinge multe teme, dar singuratatea si egoismul uman (intentionat sau incidental) sunt primare, aratand consecintele izolarii si lipsei de optiuni. Filmul incepe cu intentii aparent superficiale, dar foreshadowing-ul este evident inca de la inceput (vestile politistului, batrana cu impresii de banshee) ca avertisment.

'Bullet Train' e o comedie de actiune cu elemente caricaturiste ce aminteste de Kick-Ass sau Smokin' Aces. Imperfect, dar totusi mentine privirea vizionatorului lipita de ecran, curiozitatea si fascinatia invingand in fata unei palete atat de bogate in personaje atipice, cu caracteristici neobisnuite si raportul interesant dintre ele.

An unlucky assassin boards a train for a basic mission, but realizes that other assassins are around, having similar intentions.

'Bullet Train' is an action comedy with caricaturist elements, in a similar style to Kick-Ass or Smokin' Aces. Imperfect, but it still keeps the viewer's gaze glued to the screen, curiosity and fascination winning in front of such a rich palette of atypical characters, with unusual traits and the interesting interaction between them.

'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' este un film SF, de aventuri, marca Luc Besson. Plin de activitate, personaje variate, o lume imaginata foarte colorata si neobosita, filmul e distractiv, dar poate putin obositor fara a fi necesar. Interesant, dar nu deosebit. Din pacate, personajelor principale le lipsesc acel ceva special (gasit din abundenta in Lelloo sau Korben Dallas din The Fifth Element).

'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' is a sci-fi adventure film by Luc Besson. Full of activity, varied characters, a very colorful and tireless imagined world, the film is fun, but maybe a little unnecessarily tiring. Interesting, but not special. Unfortunately, the main characters lack that special something (found in abundance in Lelloo or Korben Dallas from The Fifth Element) to make this worthwhile.

Un bogatas excentric isi invita cei mai apropiati prieteni si pe cel mai bun detectiv din lume (Benoit Blanc) la o petrecere pe insula sa privata.

'Glass Onion' este urmarea mult asteptata a lui Knives Out, un whodunnit in stil similar, cu elemente de comedie bine evidentiate, personaje foarte colorate si variate. Misterul nu este la fel de misterios ca in primul, dar filmul e atat de bine scris, jucat si coregrafiat ca totul e permis.

'Glass Onion' is the long-awaited follow-up to Knives Out, a whodunnit in a similar style, with well-emphasized comedic elements, very colorful and varied characters. The mystery is not as mysterious as in the first one, but the film is so well written, acted and choreographed that everything is allowed.

O tanara imigranta lucreaza ca dadaca pentru a aduna bani sa isi aduca fiul cu ea.

'Nanny' e un film dramatic e foloseste elemente horror si fantezie pentru a crea sentimentul de amenintare si avertizare asupra unui viitor idealizat. Vizual, Nanny este fara cusur, impresionant si cu efecte cromatice bogate si pline de inteles. Ca mesaj, filmul reuseste sa fie foarte confuz si sa creeze impresia de inselare printr-un final ce nu pare corelat cu foreshadowing-ul ce parea intentionat pe parcursul filmului inca de la inceput.

A young immigrant works as a nanny to collect money to bring her son to her.

'Nanny' is a dramatic film and uses elements of horror and fantasy to create a sense of threat and warning for an idealized future. Visually, Nanny is flawless, impressive and with rich and meaningful chromatic effects. As a message, the film manages to be very confusing and create the impression of deception through an ending that does not seem correlated with the foreshadowing that seemed intended throughout the film, even from its beginning.

'Family Blood' e un film de groaza, amestecat puternic cu drama, dar drama slabuta. Lucrurile iau intorsaturi interesante din cand in cand, dar frustrarea vizionatorului este de neevitat.

'His House' e pe hartie un film horror, dar ceea ce nu e evident la o prima vedere este masura considerabila de drama sociala cu multe straturi. Excelent jucat, cu o distributie minima, filmul reuseste sa sperie dar si sa puna pe ganduri si sa surprinda.

'His House' is a horror film on paper , but what is not obvious at a first glance is the considerable measure of multi-layered social drama. Excellently acted, with a minimal cast, the film manages to scare but also give one pause for thought and surprise.

Wednesday Addams este trimisa la Nevermore Academy - scoala parintilor sai - ca pedeapsa pentru activitati periculoase.

'Wednesday' este un serial comedie horror cu accente gotice, marca Tim Burton, ce se bazeaza pe personajele din Familia Addams. Wednesday a lui Jenny Ortega este fidela materialului original, adaugand ceva farmec personal si improvizatie ce trebuie neaparat apreciata. Stilul este cel caracteristic lui Burton, intr-un comeback ce merita mentionat si aplaudat. Intriga este destul de bogata si whodunnit-ul capteaza atentia meritat. Singura dezamagire este probabil cuplul parintilor, cu scene putine, dialog un pic monoton, ce paleste in amintirea portretizarii lui Angelica Huston si Raoul Julia din pacate.

Wednesday (2022-)

Wednesday Addams is sent to Nevermore Academy - her parents' school - as punishment for dangerous activities.

"Wednesday" is a horror comedy series with gothic accents, a Tim Burton make, based on the characters from the Addams Family. Jenny Ortega's Wednesday is faithful to the original material, adding some personal charm and improvisation that must be fully appreciated. The style is characteristic of Burton, in a comeback that deserves to be mentioned and applauded. The plot is quite rich and the whodunnit captures the attention it deserves. The only disappointment is probably the parents, with few scenes, a bit monotonous dialogue, which pales when compared to the memory of the portrayal of Angelica Huston and Raoul Julia, unfortunately. Not by any of the actors' fault, just the writing.

O mama - baron al drogurilor - si fiul ei executa o serie de atacuri ce par sa urmareasca politistii implicati intr-o misiune de 20 de ani, ce il includea si pe Mike.

'Bad Boys for Life' e un thriller de actiune politista, 17 ani mai tarziu dupa al doilea film din franciza. Fara a fi necesar, filmul adauga niste complicatii din trecut mai mult sau mai putin plauzibile pentru a explica de ce bunicii de fata vad actiune serioasa iar. Nu e grozav, dar suficient de bun pentru fani.

A drug lord mother and her son carry out a series of attacks that seem to target the policemen involved in a 20-year old mission, which also included Mike.

'Bad Boys for Life' is a police action thriller, made 17 years after the second installment of the franchise. Without being necessary, the film adds some more or less plausible complications from the carachters' past to explain why the present-day grandparents are seeing serious action again. Not great, but good enough for the fans.
