See How They Run (2022)

In 1950's London, a mostly hated director planning a screen adaptation of a play by Agatha Christie is found murdered.

'See How They Run' is a detective comedy. There are many interesting situations, colorful characters as well, but somehow it just tries too hard. The main actors are adorable but they fail to save a script lacking a strong enough dialogue. And yet it's cute and worth seeing.

Regia:  Tom George
Cu: Adrien Brody, Saoirse Ronan, Sam Rockwell, David Oyelowo, Sian Clifford, Ruth Wilson

Glass Onion (2022)

An eccentric rich man invites his closest friends and the best detective in the world (Benoit Blanc) to a party on his private island.

'Glass Onion' is the long-awaited follow-up to Knives Out, a whodunnit in a similar style, with well-emphasized comedic elements, very colorful and varied characters. The mystery is not as mysterious as in the first one, but the film is so well written, acted and choreographed that everything is allowed.

Director:  Rian Johnson
With: Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Noah Segan

Rating: 9/10

The Frankenstein Chronicles (2015-)

A London inspector investigates crimes in the 19th century, crimes that have similarities to elements of Victor Frankenstein's story.

An interesting concept where Mary Shelley's book and the circumstances of its production are real but interwoven with fictional details and they help create a whole new fresh story managing to avoid it becoming ridiculous in any measure. The series has an intense first season, quite realistic in the style of the crime and investigations genre which is then followed by a tad weaker second season, mainly because of its slight obsession for melodramatic, however it still remains interesting to watch. The period is very well portrayed, with all the horrors of the time and Sean Bean is credible in the skin of the unfortunate inspector.

The Alienist (2018)

A psychologist, a news journal illustrator and a secretary are teaming up to help the New York police investigate a series of gruesome murders.

Inspired by actual history for some of its elements (for some of the details of the murders - unfortunately - or for some of the characters such as Theodore Roosevelt or JP Morgan), the story focuses on the the gripping events that surround the main characters who are each on their own interesting and charismatic, with each representing a trend which was gaining importance and popularity around that time (forensic psychology in Laszlo's case, feminism in Sara's case, forensics in the case of the 2 brothers Marcus and Lucius, thus portraying the period in a highly detailed, credible and intriguing way. Slightly melodramatic every now and then, this series manages not to get boring by the complete lack of monotony.
For fans of Hannibal Lecter, Mindhunter, Penny Dreadful or The Killing.
There are rumors that there will be a second season, but nothing else new for now.

You might remember Daniel Bruhl from the wonderful Good bye, Lenin! Dakota is the former child wonder who has appeared in many films (I am Sam or Man On Fire) and who still does not disappoint as an adult actor. You've seen Luke Evans in Dracula Untold, Immortals and many more. Ted Levine was unforgettable in Silence Of The Lambs and almost unrecognizable in everything he did after that.

Director: Jakob Verbruggen and others
Cast: Daniel Bruhl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Ted Levine, Michael Ironside
