La voz humana (2020)

A woman reacts to the fact that her partner left her, leaving his cases and dog behind.

'La Voz Humana' is a very intense and effective dramatic short. Tilda Swinton is fascinating and carries the film with professionalism.

Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

A scholar specializing in mythology encounters a Djinn when she chooses an object from a bazaar in Istanbul.

'Three Thousand Years of Longing' is a fantasy film inspired by Middle Eastern folklore. Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba are wonderful and convincing in the main roles, skillfully bringing to life characters with contrasting traits, strength of character and vulnerability. The history that unfolds on the screen is captivating like the nights of Scheherazade, the viewer being completely caught up in the historical and magical intrigues, unable to resist their curiosity and the visual fascination.

Constantine (2005)

John Constantine is an atypical exorcist who helps a policewoman solve her twin sister's suicide case.

'Constantine' is a horror-fantasy action movie, based on a comic book series. It was not well received at its time, but the audience learned to appreciate its many strengths: the sarcastic attitude of the characters, the non-(fully-)linear narrative, the clever twist and the full of je-ne-sais-quois portrayals of Gabriel and Lucifer.

The Dead Don't Die (2019)

Centerville residents find themselves in the middle of an unexplained zombie epidemic.

"The Dead Don't Die" is an art film, by well known auteur Jim Jarmusch, a film which is disguised as a zombie horror comedy. The film is all of the above, but moreover, it's a satire that comments on the current era of digital consumerism. The message does not even try to be subtle, and the comedy has its main sources coming from the placidity of some of the characters when faced with the events and the rich dialogue that crosses the barrier of the film with small references to the real context of the production.

Bonus: the film has a whole collection of unexpected cameos (Iggy Pop, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton and so on).

Suspiria (2018)

O tanara pasionata de dans fuge de o viata religioasa pentru a urma studiile unei academii de dans celebre din Berlin.

Un film carnal si aparent rece, fără emoții vii, cu excepția momentelor de dans, impresionează prin plasarea istorică a povestirii. Redarea epocii comuniste e fără cusur, cu un realism aidoma filmelor românești (bune) din anii 90'. 

Tilda Swinton e splendidă în triplu rol, dar nu mă pot abține din a mă întreba dacă era într-adevăr necesar. Îmi pare doar o mică dovadă de megalomanie la scară mai mică. Dar nu știu o persoană mai potrivită pentru asta.

Iar Dakota Johnson impresionează în inocența ei plină de autoritate și promisiuni, dând viață unui personaj ce pare să ascundă înțelepciuni nebănuite.

Dedicarea ei pentru acest rol e evidentă în fiecare clipa ce o petrece pe ecran.

Nu e un film pentru toată lumea, nici măcar pentru fanii autorului originalului (i.e. Dario Argento), dar totuși reușește să ridice excesul de gore la nivel de artă într-un context neobișnuit, dureros de realist in excentricitatea sa. Și e de laudat.

Pe Dakota o știți din infamul Fifty Shades of Grey dar și din minunatul A Bigger Splash. 

Tilda Swinton e în toate filmele zilele astea, dar mai speciale sunt: Orlando, Only Lovers Left Alive, We Need To Talk About Kevin, A Bigger Splash, Snowpiercer. 

Pe Chloë o știți din Kick Ass și remake-ul după Carrie.
