Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

A scholar specializing in mythology encounters a Djinn when she chooses an object from a bazaar in Istanbul.

'Three Thousand Years of Longing' is a fantasy film inspired by Middle Eastern folklore. Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba are wonderful and convincing in the main roles, skillfully bringing to life characters with contrasting traits, strength of character and vulnerability. The history that unfolds on the screen is captivating like the nights of Scheherazade, the viewer being completely caught up in the historical and magical intrigues, unable to resist their curiosity and the visual fascination.

The Harder They Fall (2021)

A famous gunman uses his gang to take revenge on the man who killed his parents, right after hearing news that the man is about to be released from prison.

'The Harder They Fall' is a western that's full of action and melodic choreography and originality, which does not necessarily come from the script but from the way the script was written and enacted. The music has become an undeclared witness to the events and very effectively maintains the harmony and choreographic balance of the meticulously arranged scenes. The story itself has a few plot holes, but this fact somehow fades when it is balanced with the general artistic and stylistic effect.

The Suicide Squad (2021)

The Corto Maltese Island is the location of the latest mission of Task Force X, composed of supervillains under the control of the American government.

'The Suicide Squad' is the sequel to film with a very similar name that had quite a negative reception in 2016. With fresh energy that includes only two of the pseudo-heroes from the first film (Harley Quinn and Colonel Flag), this film rewrites the story of the first one in a very similar way, namely with an over-the-top style, an absurdist context, characters who keep their comic-based essence and the in-your-face intention to show that the lack of realism of the first film was entirely intentional and not just an ignorant accident.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

In a reality where artificially augmented humans exist, Hobbs and Shaw are forced to work together to stop such a villain who wants to seize a dangerous biological weapon.

'Hobbs & Shaw' is part of the now very large 'Fast & Furious' family. Less ridiculous than the original film series, and somewhat more diversified in terms of plot and characters, this film is successful in what it aims to be, namely a modern and entertaining action film. The names of the cast do not include only actors known for action roles (like Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby - recently nominated for Oscars and Bafta) and that helps a lot, especially since they are not only given just some monochrome roles.

The Wire (2002-2008)

Investigația prelungită a unor traficanți de droguri din East Baltimore așa cum este văzută prin ochii detectivilor, a traficanților și a tuturor implicați în contextul politico-social ce influențează direcția și progresul acesteia.

Până în ziua de azi, The Wire încă deține titlul de cel mai bun serial din toate timpurile, și pentru toți ce l-au încercat este un fapt ușor de înțeles. E complex, e dur, e real, cu oameni imperfecți cu intenții bune sau doar cu instincte de supraviețuire și ambiții personale. E practic o vivisecție a societății urbane cu  tot bunul și mai ales cu urâtul ce reușește să ilustreze limitările celor puțini ce vor să schimbe sistemul. Lucrurile reușesc să se apropie de îmbunătățiri aproape doar în situații extraordinare în care toți cei cu un scop asemănător reușesc să se sincronizeze accidental (un fel de eveniment tip cometă ...).

A lansat sau reconfirmat ceva nume celebre (Dominic West, Idris Elba, Aidan Gillen) și a avut parte de talent crud impresionant ce nu a mai fost revăzut în alte producții (Felicia Pearson și practic majoritatea adolescenților din sezonul 4).

Un detectiv blazat dar genial nu se poate abține din a ajuta pe cei nedreptățiți, câteodată prin metode mai puțin ortodoxe, și adesea cu consecințe serioase ce-l afectează direct în mod dramatic.

Un serial polițist ca nici un altul. Cu un personaj principal imperfect dar cu intenții bune, cu o structura asimetrica (nici unul din sezoane nu are un număr de episoade la fel, unele au chiar și doar 2 episoade) și cu tipuri de interes foarte diferite ce variază de la omucideri și investigațiile standard, la vendete, la fascinați provocate de sociopati geniali și chiar și fuga de lege, e un candidat perfect pentru o noua dependenta TV. 

De neratat pentru amatorii genului și mai ales pentru fanii lui Idris Elba!

Un băiat cu probleme are viziuni despre o lume paralelă și ajunge să facă echipă cu cowboy-ul gardian din acea lume într-o luptă împotriva unui vrăjitor malefic.

Fad, lipsit de imaginație și plictisitor. Unii ar putea considera asocierea numelor lui Stephen King, Matthew McConaughey și Idris Elba ca un pariu deja câștigat dar de fapt este un eșec total. Nici măcar efectele speciale nu reușesc să îl salveze deoarece nu fac altceva decât să accentueze ridicolul poveștii.
