Terminal (2018)

A female assassin hatches subtle plans to steal the clientele from the competition.

'Terminal' is a modern film noir, full of the typical elements of the genre: the femme fatale, men of dubious character, the gentleman, treasonous plans and sunset-type lighting. The film manages to score points in terms of style, but the story is not strong or surprising enough.

Director:  Vaughn Stein
With: Margot Robbie, Simon Pegg, Dexter Fletcher, Mike Myers, Max Irons

Babylon (2022)

The beginning of Hollywood, through the lens of a young man fascinated by cinema, an actress who wants to become a star and a fading star.

"Babylon" is an artistic, dramatic film, that can be difficult to describe. Full of fantasy, and fascination for the decadent period that led the film world in its silent beginnings, it shows freedom, limitless expression as well as the forgetting in easy life, various addictions and cheap admiration. With ideas similar to 'Singing in the Rain', the parallel between the two films is mentioned almost at every step. Fascinating, but also sad.

Director:  Damien Chazelle
With: Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Jean Smart, Olivia Wilde, Diego Calva, Flea, Eric Roberts, Li Jun Li, Max Minghella, Tobey Maguire, Samara Weaving

Barbie (2023)

Barbie has an existential crisis that sends her into the real world.

"Barbie" is a comedy film with absurdist roots. True to the ideological principles in the first half, Barbie manages to be witty, funny and sarcastic (thank you, Dame Helen!). In the first half. In the second, there's a u-turn and the film falls into the trap typical of comedies in which all the characters "learn a lesson" in a cliche and cringey way. It's ok and the world likes it, but Greta Gerwig could do more.

Director:  Greta Gerwig
With: Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Helen Mirren

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)

Harley Quinn, assisted by Black Canary, Huntress and the police officer who is tracking her, tries to save a little girl from an underworld boss.

'Birds of Prey' is a sequel/spinoff of Suicide Squad which was not necessary. Margot Robbie fans will be happy. The movie is cute but easy to forget.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019)

An actor and his stuntman close friend intersect with well-known events of 1969.

'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood' is a drama with comic accents signed by Quentin Tarantino. It's a  difficult to describe film without revealing its element of surprise, precisely because it makes sense and works as intended because of it. However, in short, the film is Tarantino's ode dedicated to Hollywood or at least the idea of Hollywood as seen through the eyes of an imaginative cinephile. The two main actors have an incredible chemistry and manage to maintain the viewer's attention and the comic credibility of the film every and each moment.

Director:  Quentin Tarantino
With: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Emile Hirsch

The Suicide Squad (2021)

The Corto Maltese Island is the location of the latest mission of Task Force X, composed of supervillains under the control of the American government.

'The Suicide Squad' is the sequel to film with a very similar name that had quite a negative reception in 2016. With fresh energy that includes only two of the pseudo-heroes from the first film (Harley Quinn and Colonel Flag), this film rewrites the story of the first one in a very similar way, namely with an over-the-top style, an absurdist context, characters who keep their comic-based essence and the in-your-face intention to show that the lack of realism of the first film was entirely intentional and not just an ignorant accident.

Director:  James Gunn
With: Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Nathan Fillion

Mary Queen of Scots (2018)

The years of Mary Stuart's life before she was imprisoned by Queen Elizabeth for 20 years and the long-distance rapport they built.

A slightly different historical film, which presents known historical facts (and more), dressed in a little more emotion, empathy and more realistic feelings of the two strong personalities. The film is fascinating, the feminist accents helping to highlight the reality of the historical time and the power of spirit of two women who mattered, but who had a contrasting attitude towards the limits imposed on the gender to which they belonged, each of them losing something  in their own way.

Director:  Josie Rourke
With: Saoirse Ronan, Margot Robbie, Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn
