Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022)

10 years after he faked his death, his son manages to find him.

'New Blood' is an event (and just a one off) season that continues the story of Dexter after the well-known finale of the series that ended in 2013. Made for the sake of the fans, it tried to fix what displeased many, but unfortunately it seems that the effect of this one was even more negative. The new story is not bad, but the spirit and humor of the original is missing. Dexter is uncharacteristically clumsy and inept just for the sake of creating twists and knife-edge scenes, and the ending... is not worth mentioning.

Homefront (2013)

A former DEA agent lives a secluded life with his daughter, but manages to raise the attention of the local meth traffickers.

'Homefront' is an action movie starring Jason Statham. It can't get simpler or more generic. What is surprising, however, is the number of more atypical project actors attached to the production. Maybe an uninspired producer promised them great profits, or maybe they had high expectations from a screenplay written by Sylvester Stallone.

Director:  Gary Fleder
With: Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth, Clancy Brown

Promising Young Woman (2020)

A young woman who works at a cafe during the day, spends her free time tempting men who take advantage of weaker prey to teach them a lesson.

'Promising Young Woman' is a thriller. It often changes its tune and tone, twisting the viewer's expectations on all possible faces. After experiencing the entire final product, all the pieces come perfectly  together and find their goal and double meaning. Life is unfair and that's what the movie shows. The finale or rather the end before the final scene is the "spiritual finale", the scene added after (no spoilers) being there only to avoid any eventual protests about logic (which are not necessarily justifiable). Carey Mulligan is, as usual, excellent, her multifaceted talent not surprising anyone anymore.

Director:  Emerald Fennell
With: Carey Mulligan, Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Clancy Brown, Adam Brody, Jennifer Coolidge

The Mortuary Collection (2019)

A funeral director shares macabre memories from his very long career with a candidate for a new assistant.

An anthology horror film following the footsteps of classics like Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt. It consists of 4 stories, which are short, effective, very original and have the advantage of modern film technologies to look even more impressive for an eye trained in the horror genre. The end is somehow unexpected but very welcome!

Director:  Ryan Spindell
With: Tristan Byon, Eden Campbell, Hannah R. Loyd, Clancy Brown
